From Hokkaido to Melbourne: Meet Saori Kojima, the Artisan Behind Award-Winning Japanese Sauces

Meet Saori Kojima, the founder of a brand of traditional Japanese sauces and seasonings.

She started making sauces in her home in Upwey, Victoria, after moving to Melbourne from Hokkaido in 2011. Saori intended to recreate Japan's authentic flavours without the unnecessary additives and flavour enhancers she found in processed products.

What began as a hobby soon flourished into an award-winning business, with Saori's products winning 10 medals at various food awards between 2013 and 2019. Saori combines her nutrition knowledge and traditional Japanese cooking, focusing on fermentation, to produce sauces and seasonings of exceptional quality and flavour.

Her products use fresh ingredients from Australia and high-quality Japanese ingredients like fermented Japanese soy sauce, pure unsweetened fermented rice mirin, and first-grade kelp from Hokkaido. Saori's guiding philosophy is "Quality food; Quality life," and she is passionate about sharing her knowledge of easy, healthy, and delicious ways of cooking at home to contribute to a healthier Australia.

One of our favourite dishes that pairs perfectly with Saori’s sauces is Okonomiyaki, a Japanese pancake that’s sure to satisfy your taste buds. Linda had the pleasure of discovering this dish in Japan and Korea during her international flight attendant days, though finding a quality version in Australia can be hit or miss. That's why we’re excited to share Saori's recipe, along with her range of products. Featuring a perfect balance of flour, vegetables, and her signature sauce, it’s both healthy and delicious.
