Okonomiyaki Recipe - Serves 6

Okonomiyaki is a delicious Japanese savoury pancake made with flour, eggs, cabbage, and protein, and topped with a variety of condiments.

Ingredients:

  • 3 eggs
  • 500g thinly sliced cabbage
  • 80g plain flour (or rice flour for a gluten free Okonomiyaki)
  • 100ml water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • SAORI Okonomiyaki Sauce
  • Optional: Meat, prawns, dried bonito, mayonnaise

Instructions:

  1. Thinly slice the cabbage vertically to the leaf ridges.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the cabbage, eggs, flour, water, salt, and pepper.
  3. To prevent the pancake from sticking to the pan, sprinkle some water into the pan when heating. Once the water evaporates, add a small amount of olive oil and swirl it around before placing the pancake mixture into the pan.
  4. Cook the mixture for 3-5 minutes on one side over medium heat. If adding meat or prawns, cook them first and then place the Okonomiyaki mixture on top before flipping.
  5. To flip the pancake, gently slide a silicone egg flipper under the edges to lift it from the pan. Then, place a large plate over the frying pan and carefully turn it upside down to transfer the pancake onto the plate.
  6. Slide the pancake back into the pan and cook for another 3-5 minutes on the other side.
  7. Serve hot with SAORI's Okonomiyaki sauce, mayonnaise, and dried bonito (optional).

Enjoy your homemade Japanese meal!
