Serves 4
Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 onion, chopped
- 1 tbsp The Broth Sisters turmeric and ginger paste
- 1 tsp The Broth Sisters Fermented Chilli paste
- 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 200g canned chopped tomatoes (1/2 can)
- 200g brown lentils
- 700ml water
- 1 tbsp The Broth Sisters vegetable stock concentrate
To serve:
Handful of chopped coriander (optional)
Lime wedge (optional)
Steamed rice (optional)
Pistachio nuts (optional)
Sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions:
- Heat the oil in a small pot over medium heat. Add the onions and fry until translucent.
- Add the ginger and turmeric paste, chilli paste, garlic, and garam masala. Fry for one minute or until fragrant.
- Pour in the tomatoes and cook for 3 more minutes.
- Add the lentils, water, and vegetable stock. Stir and then turn the heat to low.
- Once the dahl is lightly simmering, cover and let cook for 30 minutes. The final texture should be thick and stew-like.
- Ladle into bowls, garnish with a sprinkle of coriander and a lime wedge. Serve with steamed rice, if desired.
